Whilst reading some magazines, I came across a link to a mini zoo in Palo Alto, California - The Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo. I gathered a few friends who had kids of the same age as my son and decided to check it out.
The kids were super excited on entering the exhibit. You will discover the museum first and then the zoo which is located on the outside. The exhibits enthralled the kids. Cause and effect - semi science exhibits will teach the little ones science. These exhibits maybe for slightly older kids as they talk about electricity. How do you make electricity. The fun part is the hands on experience. For example: Turn the wheel as fast as you can to light up the village or how does a wind \ solar power machine work? The museum and the zoo are small enough to enjoy and prevent them from being too overwhelmed with many animals\ birds.
This trip was made in 2010 & 2011 and are based on our experiences then. The zoo may have introduced more animals\ birds since then. So please visit this website for the latest information.
What do they have in there? 50 different species of animals. You may see a peacock showing off its feathers, Bob cats prancing around if they are active, or just sleeping, some ducks, hedgehogs, ferrets, raccoon's, fresh water fish in an aquarium, turtles, tortoise, some snakes, rabbits and bats. The birds and the bob cats can be viewed from a close range. A small pond in the middle of the zoo has a bridge \ viewing area to see the turtles. Towards the end, there is a room where you will be able to see the flying foxes \ bats.
So if you are staying around Palo Alto and want a fun morning or afternoon check this place out. Capture those priceless expressions on your toddlers face! Another fun place to view birds and take kids for a casual hike is at the Palo Alto Baylands Park. You can read all about it here.
